San Luis Obispo, California is home to some of the happiest people on Earth. Why? Because we have sunshine all year round and a beautiful environment, with mountains and ocean, cattle ranches, thriving farms and wineries, farmers markets, a top-notch university and towns that range from rustic to artistic to sophisticated.

Get happy!
Author Dan Buettner
names San Luis Obispo,
California one of the
happiest places
on Earth.

A new book called Thrive… Finding Happiness the Blue Zones Way to be published this fall by National Geographic and Random House features San Luis Obispo as “…a city of strength, energy and vigor where it all seems to work because its leaders and citizens share a bond of great purpose.”

According to author Dan Buettner, "Thrive" is the first book to document  ‘happiness hotspots’ worldwide, and includes tips for developing your own happy hotspot.

The SLO Chamber of Commerce's President Dave Garth worked with the author for months and provided photos for the book.

Disneyland, about a five hour drive from San Luis Obispo, is supposed to be THE Happiest Place on Earth, but does it have a real castle?

Being in the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, I can see the appeal of getting away to a quieter place. I've at least found my little niche in the South Bay, only venturing into LA proper when it's absolutely necessary. But it would be nice to one day seek greener pastures :)
