SLO County planning green building ordinance:
An upcoming presentation could shed light on San Luis Obispo County’s plan to develop its own green building ordinance, exceeding state requirements for energy efficiency which are already the nation's toughest and result in new homes today being 30 % more energy efficient than just 10 years ago.
The presentation – co-sponsored by SLO Green Build, the area U.S. Green Building Council, the county Air Pollution Control District, and Pacific Gas and Electric Co. – will feature Richard Morgan, the Austin Energy Green Building Program manager. It began a green building program more than 15 years ago to reduce energy use for new and existing buildings by focusing on such benefits as better health, greater comfort, lower utility bills, less maintenance, and lasting value.
The public presentation will be Thursday, March 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Meadow Park, 2333 Meadow Street, San Luis Obispo. Snacks and beverages will be provided; beer and wine will be available at $2 per glass. There will be a suggested $5 donation at the door.
